Fire Damage Cleanup and Restoration in Farmington

If your Farmington home experiences fire damage like our vehicle in this burn demonstration, Call SERVPRO.

SERVPRO is Available to Farmington Residents for Fire Damage Assistance

Fires are incredibly destructive, and once they break loose, they can indiscriminately ravage any Farmington property – commercial or residential. Once a fire occurs and everyone is safe, the best thing to do is contact a skilled team to handle the fire restoration and cleanup process. SERVPRO is there 24-hours a day with certified fire and smoke restoration technicians to begin helping you pick up the pieces from such a traumatic event.

If you wonder how fire damage in Farmington gets addressed, SERVPRO works to tailor a plan to your unique needs. No two fire restoration projects are the same, but we do follow some of the same guidelines along the way, including:

Assessment and Inspection

After our crew arrives at your property and first responders give the green light for entry, we inspect and assess all fire damage. This allows us to select the correct number and types of equipment to help us achieve our restoration goals. The inspection usually involves:

  • Safety hazard identification
  • Possible issues with structural elements
  • All surfaces and materials damaged by fire
  • Contents inspection
  • The type of soot/soilings present
  • How much water damage is present from first responders extinguishing the flames

Securing Your Property / Debris removal

Once the project scope gets formulated, we secure your property with board-up and tarping services. Covering the roof, walls, windows, and doors that are missing or damaged helps keep vermin out, thwart vandals, and ensures that your interior does not take on further damage from the elements.

Our team also handles debris removal, including unsalvageable building materials and charred contents. Everything gets safely disposed of according to local guidelines.

Secondary Damage Prevention

Mold growth and corrosion are two factors that need careful consideration after a fire incident in your home. The potential for bacteria and black mold is why water must get removed and the interior dried. When it comes to corrosion, there is potential for discoloration on walls and other surfaces, pitting, and etching on some items due to the corrosive nature of soot and smoke residue.

Detailed Cleaning

House fire cleanup is always best with the help of skilled professionals that understand best practices for ensuring safe, effective results. SERVPRO’s technicians have access to EPA-registered cleaning agents and a broad range of specialized techniques that allow us to restore versus replace whenever possible. This saves your cherished belongings and saves you money on your restoration project.

Odor Control is Paramount with any Fire-related Project

We have an entire team of IICRC-certified technicians on our team, including trusted and knowledgeable Odor Control Technicians (OCT). Our crew understands all the latest techniques and processes for handling pungent smoke and soot odors. We never use anything that masks odors. Instead, we work diligently to ensure odorous particulates get eliminated so there is no lingering reminder of the blaze. Some of the scent battling weapons in our arsenal include:

  • Odor counteractant beads or granules
  • Thermal fogging equipment
  • Ultra-low volume (ULV) foggers
  • Air scrubbers with onboard HEPA filtration
  • Hydroxyl generators
  • Ozone technology

Did you know that we will also work with your insurance?

There is nothing better than knowing you have a trusted partner in your corner to help with your homeowner’s insurance for your fire claim. We handle the paperwork to help you streamline the process!

SERVPRO Provides Fire Restoration and Repair to Farmington Homeowners After a Fire

A fire in your Farmington home can be devastating! Damage to contents and structure, smoke residues, and odor everywhere. Your family is sometimes displaced for months, and many of your cherished family mementos and heirlooms are potentially lost.

SERVPRO provides fire restoration to homeowners in Farmington and surrounding areas. Many residents affected by a fire in their homes are unaware that many of their mementos, heirlooms, clothing, and furniture can be saved and restored. Our goal is to restore smoke-damaged materials to their preloss condition, free of smoke residues and odors.

Our approach is first to assess the home's condition, ensure that it is safe to enter, and assess the damage caused by the fire and the efforts of the fire department to quell the blaze. We remove contents and structures damaged by the fire, keeping an inventory of all items being removed.

Next, we begin cleaning, following these principles:

  • Locate smoke residues throughout the home.
  • Determine the type of smoke residue.
  • Identify surface type to determine the cleaning method and cleaning products.
  • Capture and remove residues using the appropriate cleaning method and products for each type of residue and surface.

Non-porous surfaces can be wiped down and cleaned, while fabrics must be carefully cleaned to avoid pushing the residues further into the fabric. Light, fluffy residues and particles can be vacuumed using HEPA filter-equipped vacuums. Some materials require surface agitation to remove residues using towels, brushes, air, water pressure, or sonic vibration equipment.

Our highly trained fire restoration technicians will apply their knowledge and experience to return your home to its preloss condition "Like it Never Even Happened."

The Focus of Fire Restoration Inspections in Farmington

9/2/2022 (Permalink)

Our SERVPRO of The Farmington Valley rapid response team is available 24/7!

Fire Restoration Relies on Thorough Inspections

It is often important for responding SERVPRO professionals to grasp the nature of the restoration project and the efforts required to return properties to preloss condition. Fires are particularly destructive to the building materials and contents, making early actions like thorough inspections a crucial part of the total recovery service we provide.

Understanding the Scope of the Work

Fire restoration of Farmington properties is not the same for every structure. We must calculate the condition of specific areas, work on restoring contents and building materials, and create a restoration plan including vital elements like:

How Damaged Is the Structure?

Structural elements can be severely damaged by migrating fire loss effects. From surface damage like soot deposits to combustion severe enough to warrant controlled demolition, the inspection process must choose how to manage threatened building materials. In some situations, SERVPRO must utilize our general contractor license to remove the compromised structure.

Can Contents Be Restored?

Contents are another focus of the inspection process. Production management conducts an item-by-item review of personal belongings and furniture in the house to catalog loss. Some affected items are unsalvageable and must be discarded. Other objects with only mild damage can be cleaned on-site or relocated to our nearby warehouse for intricate cleaning, deodorization, and safe storage.

How Can SERVPRO Help with Cleanup?

Once the inspection process has helped determine the damage to the property and the appropriate response, our SERVPRO professionals must get started on mitigating loss. Cleaning up after fire damages means providing powerful solutions to threats like soot deposits like solvents and detergents while minimizing the damage to salvageable elements.

Fires do not have to be the end of your home. Call our SERVPRO of The Farmington Valley fire & smoke restoration technicians at (860) 675-4500.

Farmington Fire Damage? Call SERVPRO for Mitigation and Restoration

7/5/2022 (Permalink)

Farmington property owners rely on SERVPRO for fire and smoke damage cleanup and restoration.

What Damage Can You Expect from Fire in Your Farmington Home?

With disasters that can occur with little or no warning to your Farmington home, few are as disastrous and potentially disastrous as a fire. With the spread of this damage moving quickly from the combustion site through adjoining areas of your property, you react quickly to get first responders and firefighters out working to extinguish this growing blaze. To protect the investment in your home, you must understand the potential damage during and after the incident.

While many Farmington homeowners might lump fire damage into one big category of loss, varying situations require professional restoration technicians like ours to address specific concerns before working to mitigate losses. While many hazards and risks could present themselves through the investigation in the house, the assessment and the work to follow should be performed by our trained SERVPRO technicians, that can respond 24 hours a day to this pressing emergency.

Primary effects often include the structural damage typical to larger house fires. Through debris removal and controlled demolition, our professionals can prepare your home for the reconstruction needs it has after mitigation completes. The consequences can include soot and smoke residues, which are difficult to clean up and restore on their own without the appropriate equipment. Smoke damage can also remain present through a widespread noxious odor embedded in materials, fabrics, clothing, and other contents. Strategic placement of HEPA filtered air scrubbers, hydroxyl generators, and light fogging can mitigate the odors.

Our SERVPRO professionals can also help you contend with secondary damages that can occur, such as water harm from extinguishing efforts and even mold growth resulting from the warm, moist environment.

Understanding what you can expect after a fire occurs in your home is the first step to choosing to have our professional and reputable SERVPRO of The Farmington Valley rapid response team help you make it “Like it never even happened.” Contact us anytime you need us at (860) 675-4500.

Your Avon Home Can Be Restored By Our Fire Damage Specialists

6/3/2022 (Permalink)

Our goal at SERVPRO of The Farmington Valley is to return every home to its original condition after a fire.

Restoring Avon Homes After Fire Damage

Avon has seen its share of disasters. Flooding is an issue for the entire community. Still, fires are always more personal and visceral. Cleanup and repair often take longer as well.

Any Avon fire damage needs a professional service that can respond quickly. SERVPRO maintains a response team on-call, 24/7, to begin the restoration process immediately after the area is determined safe to enter.

Our first actions include securing the home and disposing of non-salvageable property. The fire can blow out windows, and firefighters need to create new openings to assist in their efforts. Technicians use plywood and heavy canvas to close off broken windows, block doorways, and even cover damaged roofs to prevent secondary damage from the weather, vandals, and animal intrusions.

As team members secure the home, others begin removing the personal and structural property damaged physically by the fire. Immediate removal serves two purposes: it clears the house for our inspectors to determine the extent of the damage and what tools they need for repair. It also eliminates a source of odor-causing particles so they can choose the start of the remaining odors to stop them.

Next, SERVPRO technicians clean everything that is restorable. Response teams use an extensive inventory of cleaners to remove smoke residues and other particles left after the fire. They can restore everything from ceiling tiles to sofa cushions. If there are heavy residues, our personnel can remove the items to our facility for immersion cleaning. This method of forcing cleaners across and through surfaces using sonic waves is exceptionally influential on window blinds and even some types of upholstered furniture.

Our goal at SERVPRO of The Farmington Valley is to return every home to its original condition after a fire. If that includes you, contact us today at (860) 675-4500 to schedule an inspection and then determine how we can help get you back into your home.

SERVPRO Tackles Any Fire Cleanup in Farmington Homes by Being Thorough and Meticulous

House fires can spark quickly and spread uncontrollably within minutes, and before you know it, your Farmington home has suffered some significant damages. Appropriate restoration like what SERVPRO delivers is necessary to limit contents and structural deterioration.

Fire restoration in a Farmington home must also tackle the issue of water damage that occurs after the fire has been put out. This calls for rapid response before microbial growth, which can start within 24hrs of the incident. SERVPRO responds rapidly to scope the damage and mitigate the situation.

Fire Restoration Activities Include

  • Clearing debris
  • Cleaning smoke and soot
  • Drywall and ceiling replacement
  • Upholstery and carpet cleaning

Clearing of Debris and Smoke in a Fire Damaged Property

Damaged materials create a pile of wet and dry debris that must be removed from the house. Fire readily consumes drywall and ceiling panels. However, these materials may not burn completely hence contributing to the piles of debris. Our crews help tear down and organize the wastes for disposal. Large trash cans provide a convenient way for such collection. We also remove restorable contents to clean smoke and odor damage, restoring pre-damaged conditions. SERVPRO utilizes several cleaning methods for these restorations.

  • Spray and wipe
  • Ultrasonic cleaning
  • Foam cleaning

Sometimes, smoke gets past drywall affecting the frames even when there are no visible signs on the surface. For this reason, we may have to remove drywall, and once the frame is exposed, our technicians clean smoke and soot with specialized chemicals. Cleaned and deodorized areas of the frames are then sealed and primed to quash any remaining odor and bar the return of damage. Also, if the drywall is damaged by water, we may have to replace it.

SERVPRO of The Farmington Valley ensures the fire restoration is done thoroughly to pass inspection. Call us at (860) 675-4500. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster.

Can Rust and Water Stains Be Removed After a Fire in Farmington – Call SERVPRO

Most consumers are amazed at the amount of damage caused by even small fires in Farmington. They see charred remains of a cupboard in a kitchen, smoke residues covering everything, stains on fabrics from the chemicals and water mixing, and even rust on materials. Cleaning up after a fire, a small or large one, takes time and knowledgeable professionals.

SERVPRO brings highly trained technicians to help with fire restoration activities after a fire in a Farmington home. Our people are trained to assess the damage, check for safety issues and marshal the resources to restore your home. We look for the type of fire – grease, plastics, or primarily wood. What chemicals were used to quell the fire? Did the fire department use a great deal of water or fire retardant? All of these factors are considered during the cleanup and restoration activity.

Water mixing with various residues can stain fabrics. Water can also cause metal items to begin exhibiting signs of rust, leaving rust stains on materials. They both can be removed and each item restored to its normal state. We use:

  • Peroxide water stain remover is mixed with shampoo to clean fabrics and remove spots and stains
  • Rust removal products produce a strong acid solution to dissolve rust stains on many materials.
  • We test cleaning solutions before they are used to avoid removing dyes from fabrics and carpets.

SERVPRO can discuss any concerns clients may have regarding cleaning treasured items and explain the detailed process we follow to protect your favorite things. We reserve these processes for the most difficult stains and rust deposits. In most cases, water and detergents or mild solvents are more than sufficient to complete the job.

Removing Smoke Residue in Farmington After a Fire

2/19/2021 (Permalink)

Dealing with the aftermath of a fire can be overwhelming. Contact SERVPRO and we'll be there for you during the entire process.

Why Do Some Fire Damage Residues Smear After a Farmington Fire?

Fires can ignite in all areas of a building; however, many begin in the kitchen. Grease fires produce oily smoke residue that adheres to surfaces, while hot, dry fires produce lighter residues that can be vacuumed or wiped from hard surfaces. Using the appropriate cleaning agents avoids smearing oily residues.

SERVPRO fire damage technicians responding to a Farmington fire always inspect the building before initiating restoration, which may include:

  • Safety assessment and overall requirements
  • Board up or roof-tarp installation
  • Location and type of fire as well as the extent of the damage
  • Water removal and drying
  • Removal of fire-damaged contents and structure
  • Tracing of smoke residues throughout the building, including types of residues
  • Cleanup of smoke residues using appropriate cleaning methods for dry, oily, or chemical residues on various surfaces

Odor removal and restoration activities can then proceed, including minor repairs.

Is the Burnt-Food Smell Inside a Simsbury Kitchen Permanent?

10/23/2020 (Permalink)

When smoke damages your home, count on the professionals at SERVPRO.

In Simsbury, the Scent of Scorched Food is One of the More Difficult Odors to Remove

Any food, including a simple batch of plain white rice, forgotten on the stove in your Simsbury residence, can leave things a stinky mess. The burning of higher-protein foods produces an even more unpleasant stench. Oily foods make a very sticky, dark soot that also clings tightly to all that it coats.

As the soils from burnt food degrade, odor-causing particles enter the air. When someone breathes air that contains these particles, they smell a disagreeable odor. An overcooked dinner’s lingering odor in Simsbury remains until we remove all traces of the soot. This requires a combination of labor-intensive soot removal, cleaning and deodorizing agents, and a few of SERVPRO’s powerful but efficient machines.

How does SERVPRO remove soot deposits?

Cooking messes often produce heavy, dense smoke that saturates the air with sticky particles. We use both wet and dry methods to remove the grime from walls, windows, ceilings, floors, and objects in your kitchen.

What kind of machines assist in smoke and soot cleanup?

Our technicians rely on the latest scientifically backed machines to clean the air of leftover particles.

  • Our air scrubbers filter out these contaminants. This cleaner air also helps SERVPRO employees provide a more efficient and cost-effective service.
  • SERVPRO uses fogging machines that help push odor-blocking agents into areas impossible to reach otherwise. Encapsulated by these larger molecules, soot cannot re-enter the air to create foul odors again.

Which chemicals does SERVPRO use after a kitchen fire?

Our smoke and fire damage restoration team uses different types of cleansers and deodorizing agents. The ones we choose for your specific needs are based on:

  • The kind of food burnt,
  • The layout of your kitchen, and
  • Your stated desires. These can include specific scents you prefer, or allergies, and other health issues.

SERVPRO of The Farmington Valley is always ready to help after a cooking disaster. Call us at (860) 675-4500 to clear the air and make things “Like it never even happened.”

How do I know what will happen to my household items?

If fire damage in your Simsbury home is severe enough to warrant move out services, you can rest assured, we will keep you informed throughout the process. You have enough to deal with without wondering what is happening to the things you need and cherish. Once we have inventoried and boxed up the salvageable items, they then go to our warehouse. They are categorized in a staging area to prepare for cleaning and restoration.

From the staging area, the different items will move to cleaning areas. You can expect:

  • Items will be labeled and coded

Will My Farmington Home Always Show Signs of the Fire?

Fire losses are devastating. SERVPRO knows how to restore your home.

SERVPRO Helps Erase the Signs of Fire Damage with our Restoration Techniques in Your Farmington Home

Fire loss is devastating for any homeowner, regardless of the size or scope of the fire and resulting damage. Hiring trained restoration professionals help you bring your home back to preloss condition faster, and we are here to help at SERVPRO. We work quickly so that your life goes back to normal, superseding the results left by DIY methods alone. Our team arrives to your Farmington home with the latest equipment and advancements in the restoration field to make your interior “Like it never even happened.”

Do I Need to Do Anything After the Fire?

After first responders put the fire out and the building is deemed safe for entry, call our team as soon as possible. We are Faster to Any Size Disaster and deploy a crew in as little as four hours. Upon arrival, the crew chief assesses your fire damage in Farmington and the team formulates a plan to restore your interior, salvaging as much as possible.

It Smells Awful Inside My Home, Do I Need To Worry About Air Quality?

Fire produces particles from smoke and soot that deposit throughout your home, even in areas untouched by flames. We not only address the odors and air quality in your home but also take care of any leftover moisture from extinguishing the fire. Our skilled technicians bring the latest filtration tools and equipment to ensure the air quality in your home is back to normal. We work to make sure that the air throughout your home is breathable and that there is no threat from microbial contamination or lingering smoke odors. Some of the equipment used most often in these situations include:

  • Air Scrubbersthat help to cut back on the debris and particulates flowing throughout the air. Our air scrubbers also reduce the threat from microorganisms colonizing in moist conditions. This technology works similarly to our Hydroxyl Generators by pulling in contaminated air and trapping airborne particles to put cleaner air back into the environment.
  • Hydroxyl Generatorsare dual-acting, which means that they work to deodorize your interior while purifying and filtering the air at the same time. Our Hydroxyl equipment includes HEPA filtration where air enters, and the filter traps microbes, debris, and particulates.

Will Smoke Odors Become Unnoticeable?

SERVPRO has perfected the Farmington fire damage restoration and odor elimination process. Every step we put into action removes charred debris and removes harsh residue from every area where particles may have traveled.

  • We can remove furniture and belongings to be thoroughly deodorized off-site. Removing furniture prevents smoke residue from transferring to other areas of your home that are otherwise unaffected.
  • Our team cleans any surfaces covered in soot or smoke, ensuring no areas are left untreated. We carry a vast selection of EPA-approved cleaning agents that removes stubborn residue from plastic, wood, and building materials.
  • With pungent-odor situations, the team re-creates the cause of odor penetration. Various deodorizing agents get heated with fogging equipment, which puts out a chemical cloud to penetrate surfaces and eliminate odors.
  • If the fire damage reached a significant portion of your home, some exposed surfaces might need sealing with a special primer on the walls, followed by paint color. We also can seal the ductwork for your HVAC system, if necessary.

Will the Soot Cause Lasting Stains?

The heat from the fire that ripped through your home brings on surface charring. Standard restoration in the form of resurfacing or replacement is generally the best option. We use a range of specialized techniques and equipment to help us handle all of the smoke and soot residues left throughout the house. Soda blasting uses pressurized air to shoot high-speed sodium bicarbonate, which blasts away the charring and smoke residue. This compound also acts as a deodorizing agent, so it helps to remove tough odors from the different materials needing treatment.

Because soot and smoke particles settle on walls, ceilings, and other flat surfaces rapidly after a fire, DIY methods are not only time-consuming but also unproductive. SERVPRO technicians tackle this residue with powerful vacuums and pressure washing equipment to restore your Farmington home faster than DIY methods can ever achieve. Our industrial-strength equipment and HEPA filtration allow us to quickly pull out the loosened particles without the worry that they can become redistributed throughout the air.

Call (860) 675-4500 to talk with us at SERVPRO of The Farmington Valley. We are available for professional fire damage restoration services 24/7, and most crews arrive on the scene in as little as four hours to get started with the assessment process.

Smoke and fire damage in Farmington can impact a variety of items, surfaces, and materials within your home. Because the average homeowner may only have limited knowledge when it comes to addressing the devastation that fire leaves behind, this is a job that called for experienced technicians. SERVPRO follows the standards set forth via the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Technicians (IICRC), which makes a real difference in the results of your restoration project.

What We Do
Calling in a team of skilled technicians after suffering a fire loss means that you have experienced personnel on-site and ready to get to work immediately. We take the time to carefully assess your home and all of the fire damage, paying close attention to all of your belongings and hidden cracks and crevices where moisture, as well as soot and smoke residue, often hides. Such attention to detail ensures that stains, discoloration, and lingering odors are not left undetected or unaddressed. We fully tailor all of our services to your unique situation.

Once we get started on the restoration project, the latest in air moving and ventilation equipment is strategically-placed to prevent odorous smoke particles from settling on various surfaces throughout the home. Our trained technicians also remove any debris and damaged items, making it easier to clean and deodorize all affected areas. We utilize proprietary restoration and cleaning processes that eliminate odors while helping to restore your personal belongings safely and efficiently.

In situations where smoke and soot are incredibly prominent, a combination of multiple techniques might be required. Chemical containment helps to block odor molecules so that they do not vaporize into the air by way of spraying chemical deodorizers. Vapor odor control helps counteract airborne odor particles using products made to put deodorant vapors into the air. Thermal fogging utilizes solvent-based deodorants expelled into the atmosphere using thermal fogging equipment.

When you need help with fire damage, you can trust in our trained team at SERVPRO of The Farmington Valley. Get in touch with us by calling (860) 675-4500, and we can send out a team to make it “Like it never even happened.”

Restoring Rafters Damaged by Fire in Your Farmington Attic

1/17/2020 (Permalink)

You Need Experts On The Job In Your Farmington Home. Call SERVPRO.

Fire Damage In Your Farmington Home Will Need SERVPROs Assistance

During a house fire in Farmington, firefighters often use hatchets and axes to open up sections of the roof. This helps them gain control of the fire more quickly, decreasing the amount of damage overall in the entire house. However, it also helps push smoke out through the attic, which can leave rafters coated in layers of soot. This soot becomes troublesome for several different reasons.

When firefighters do this to your Farmington residence, fire damage still occurs because their goal is extinguishing the fire as quickly as possible. The attic is not considered as part of the living space, and stored items often carry low priority. However, we want to mitigate all of the damage left behind after a fire, and this includes the unfinished wood rafters supporting your roof. Soot in the most isolated places can cause odors, and it can also hide the extent of damage wood sustains. Weakened wood can collapse under the weight of heavy snowfall, even after our building crew repairs the roof.

After the roof is tarped and protected, we can start mitigating the damage by removing the soot from the rafters. Lighter deposits, like those found farther away from newly-made holes, usually come away from the surface of unfinished rafters and other frameworks with a stiff brush. We use a high-strength deodorizer to neutralize any remaining odors.

Smoke can cause damage in other ways than just physical deposits. Particles can burn the rafters just enough to cause damage when heated to extreme temperatures, but without them ever igniting anything. Doused by firefighters, these quickly cool off, but the damage remains. Finding out how much damage, however, is crucial to protecting your home’s roof.

We use different methods, including wire brushing, to remove all of the charred wood, revealing undamaged wood again. Other methods used include blasting with baking soda or dry ice pellets, and also scraping and vacuuming simultaneously with small filtered hand devices. Many times, we use a combination of methods. Once we reach undamaged wood, we apply deodorizer mixed with duct sealer to protect the wood and keep odors from becoming a nuisance. A pigmented lacquer-type primer can be sprayed upon the exposed, raw wood lumber to contain the malodorous molecules.

SERVPRO of The Farmington Valley is always here to help families in Avon, Canton, and Collinsville after fire damage leaves their homes full of smoke deposits like soot and ashes. Call us at (860) 675-4500, 24/7, year-round, including weekends and holidays.

Thorough Cleaning Applications for Fire Damage and Odor Control in your Farmington Home

12/30/2019 (Permalink)

Fire damage to your Farmington home can be very scary, let us help.

SERVPRO is prepared to help you through your Farmington fire damage.

After a house fire, homeowners can sometimes require special services to restore their possessions and structural contents. Smoke travels quickly through a home environment and can deposit hot ash onto tough to reach places like stairwells, light fittings, or drapery rods. When temperatures rise, so does the air pressure in an indoor environment. That can mean that soot is forced into small recesses or cavities. Any gaps, such as sockets or ceiling infrastructure, can become caked in odor-causing ash, smoke residues, and soot deposits.

Indoor air quality can become adversely affected by fire damage in your Farmington home. You may breathe in microscopic soot particles or find unpleasant burnt odors throughout the areas of your house. Odor can come from numerous sources and be tough to pin down. Your best opportunity to overcome malodors is through thoroughly removing soot from all areas of the property. SERVPRO technicians can identify where soot deposits are likely to be found and conduct an inspection of your heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) unit.

Odor Control Technicians (OCT) are a vital part of SERVPRO's restoration roster. We can remove fittings like socket housing, as well as drapery rods or ventilation ducts. These openings create a small enclosure and increase air pressure, which can drive soots into these spaces. By removing them, SERVPRO can safely dissolve bonded soots from the surface using oil or water-based cleaning fluids. The materials themselves can be replaced relatively cheaply or sent for immersion cleaning.

Immersion cleaning is an advanced restoration technique. Dense items that can withstand submerging in a cleaning fluid are suitable options for immersion cleaning. When the machine is switched on, sound waves passing through the solvent produces bubbles. Thousands of these bubbles burst against the item creating friction, pressure, and temperature. Items capable of withstanding the pressure benefit because the removal of bonded soiling is total. Often, thorough cleaning of contents and structure can remove odors more effectively than deodorants.

Thoroughly removing troublesome soot or smoke deposits is only achievable with professional training and equipment. Contact SERVPRO of The Farmington Valley at (860) 675-4500.

SERVPRO Proudly Donates Burn Vehicles to the Burlington Volunteer Fire Department for Training Purposes

SERVPRO Donates Fleet Service Vehicle to Burlington Fire Department for Training

There comes a time in the service life of a SERVPRO Green Fleet vehicle that it is time to take a final ride. One way to give the fleet van one more job to do is to donate it to the Burlington Volunteer Fire Department (BVFD) for use as a training element to keep skills sharp for extinguishing vehicle fires as well as extrication methods for removing victims in auto accidents.

This vehicle is one of many that are regularly donated to give the Burlington Volunteer Firefighters hands-on training. SERVPRO knows the importance of creating realistic training environments as our technicians undergo similar simulated situations when they learn the best practices during restoration services.

Valuable Training Tool
The fire department gets extra mileage out of each vehicle donation and sets up various situations. It's more than merely extinguishing a simulated engine fire under the hood. Different scenarios such as a car igniting from within are handled or the removal of an unconscious victim in a burning vehicle. These are valuable training exercises that get applied in real-life situations by the first responders.

Multi-Purpose Training
There is a regular need for this type of donation, and SERVPRO strives to help our local fire and rescue services whenever possible. In some cases, the firefighters remove the seats to teach other responders how fast the material burns and the burn patterns to learn expedited methods for extinguishing these specific types of fires.

Catching Arson
Another valuable training element is the ability to use different accelerants on the donated vehicles to learn what they look like after burning to help catch arsonists trying to cash in through fraudulent insurance claims.

SERVPRO of The Farmington Valley at (860) 675-4500 supports our local community with restoration services when you need us. And we support our local First Responders whenever possible through donations of decommissioned service vehicles for use in training.

Our Certified Professionals Are Ready To Restore Your Simsbury Home After A Fire Disaster

7/2/2019 (Permalink)

We had to secure this property after a fire. This is a necessary step in the restoration process to prevent further damage to the property.

Before You Assess Fire Damage in Your Simsbury Property

As a Simsbury homeowner, you want to contend with the effects of fire loss and other emergencies as promptly as possible once your property becomes compromised. Even with the fast response that we can provide for our customers throughout The Farmington Valley, homeowners still choose to assess the damage to their property on their own. There are many risks and hazards associated with self-evaluation of damage to your house, and many insurance providers do not accept unprofessional or uncertified documentation and photographic evidence submitted towards claims.

There are some words and points of caution to stress before you set out to assess the fire damage of Simsbury properties you own. The first concern is a general misunderstanding and misinterpretation of the degree of severity for the damage in a house. There are situations where damage can appear minimal, but the worst of these conditions are happening in areas inexperienced individuals would not think or decide to look. With professional assessment like our SERVPRO team offers, you are getting a complete and thorough inspection conducted by Fire & Smoke Restoration Technicians (FSRT) accredited through the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC.)

Another word of caution about self-evaluation are the dangers present in a home after structure fires have taken place. Areas that look safe and stable can be structurally compromised, and give way under pressure or collapse onto inspectors. Our SERVPRO team has multiple technicians and professionals that can work together to navigate potential hazards that exist in a fire-damaged property safely. This experience can help to not only keep our professionals safe to get your insurance company the evidence needed to approve a damage claim but also to keep our customers safe from inspecting the property on their own.

We know that fire loss incidents can be overwhelming and stressful, especially when you believe that you must assess the damages on your own. Let our experienced SERVPRO of The Farmington Valley fire restoration specialists help you through every phase of recovery to make this emergency “Like it never even happened.” Give us a call anytime at (860) 675-4500.

Smoke and Soot Cleanup - Canton

8/10/2018 (Permalink)

Smoke and soot is very invasive and can penetrate various cavities within your home, causing hidden damage and odor. Our smoke damage expertise and experience allows us to inspect and accurately assess the extent of the damage to develop a comprehensive plan of action.

Smoke and soot facts:

  • Hot smoke migrates to cooler areas and upper levels of a structure.
  • Smoke flows around plumbing systems, seeping through the holes used by pipes to go from floor to floor.
  • The type of smoke may greatly affect the restoration process.

Different Types of Smoke

There are two different types of smoke–wet and dry. As a result, there are different types of soot residue after a fire. Before restoration begins, SERVPRO of The Farmington Valley will test the soot to determine which type of smoke damage occurred. The cleaning procedures will then be based on the information identified during pretesting. Here is some additional information:

Wet Smoke – Plastic and Rubber

  • Low heat, smoldering, pungent odor, sticky, smeary. Smoke webs are more difficult to clean.

Dry Smoke – Paper and Wood

  • Fast burning, high temperatures, heat rises therefore smoke rises.

Protein Fire Residue – Produced by evaporation of material rather than from a fire

  • Virtually invisible, discolors paints and varnishes, extreme pungent odor.

Our Fire Damage Restoration Services

Since each smoke and fire damage situation is a little different, each one requires a unique solution tailored for the specific conditions.  We have the equipment, expertise, and experience to restore your fire and smoke damage.  We will also treat your family with empathy and respect and your property with care.
