Exposed Mold in Bristol

This is exposed mold is growing in a closet in Bristol.  Most of the time a closet is dark, and likely very humid.  This closet was close to a bathroom which had been leaking for a period of time, however as it was not visibly leaking near the loss location, it was not caught until the wall adjacent had been impacted with the moisture.  Since there is minimal light and air movement, it is a part where the moisture and bacteria prosper.  As a result the closet has now become a breeding ground for mold.  All items (clothing) would need to be heavily treated and cleaned – however based off the exposure, it is likely smarter just to dispose them all together.

Extensive Mold Growth in Hartford

This mold exposure in the Hartford, is very extensive and indicative of a room or space likely left to the elements or isolated for a long period of time.   With minimal air flow and dark environment the mold is able to multiply freely.  This type of a cleanup needs to be bio-driven because the mold is so extensive it has actually warped and impacted the ceiling fan.  The humidity has allowed for the mold to overgrow much of the room and space.  As a result containment is difficult as the room would likely need to be torn down and rebuilt entirely to mitigate the entire damage.  The exposure here is so extensive that it can be hazardous for the technicians taking care of the work, but also any home inhabitants.

Substantial Mold Growth in Bloomfield

This water occurred when a water loss was not properly mitigated (initially) and as a result, behind the trim there is substantial mold growth – in Bloomfield.  The mold was left untreated after the initial loss and now is becoming a potential danger as it is shortly going to exceed beyond the trim.  Because it was not visible behind the trim, the growth continues to grow and worsen over time.  The trim has been removed – this is the importance of proper mitigation from the onset so that the right steps are taken from the beginning. This can help prevent further mold growth.

Mold Exposure in Plainville

This loss indicates a mold exposure that was allowed to grow and fester in Plainville.  The mold growth is so expansive and overgrown that the exposure is clearly going to impact the health and wellbeing of the occupants.  This is worsened as it is bordering on hoarding tendencies, as there is so much material to contain and dispose of.   This particular loss is bordering on biohazard clean up,  and will require substantial disposal as much of the property is going to need heavy or strong chemical agents to properly mitigate all damages.

Sewer Backup in Meriden

In this photo the homeowner suffered a backup to their sewer system from a heavy rain storm to the mainline of the property in Meriden.  This occurs when a public or town public works line gets inundated or clogged with materials.  You can see this when a storm grate or drain is actively overflowing.  The overflow indicates a back up that needs to be addressed, but often overflows back into property owners nearby.  This can be avoided with a plumber installing a backflow preventer to the main line, however often times effort to prevent or fix the issue comes too late. The issue will continue to worsen with heavy usage of wipes entering our sewer systems as they should not be flushed – and cause millions of dollars of damage.

Terryville Basement Seepage

In this photo from Terryville, the water seeped in through the basement access.  The water seeped in from the ground or surface outside.  This is more common with properties or homes with a high-water table or close to body of water.  If the water table is forced beyond it’s means, the table overflows, and goes the lowest point.  Hence why the water exposure progressed into the basement from the outside.  If there are access points, like a bulkhead or casement window that Is not continually maintained, you will see this happen more and more – however if there is areawide flooding this is temporary and cannot be avoided.

Sump Pump Backup

This photo depicts water backing up (from a sump pump) – in West Simsbury.  This occurred on the property due to a power failure, which consequently resulted into water dispersing throughout the basement.  As the source is resulting from a lack of power, the sump pump is unable to properly remove water at the time the loss is occurring.  The sump pit collects the water, then a lever activates and pushes waste through a clearance line.  Depending on how long the sump pump can’t actually pump out water, is indicative of how much potential damage can occur.  The sump is vital to help move or displace water; but without power or proper maintenance a back up can occur.  This also can occur when the sump pit is undated with water, but so is the clearance line to get rid of the water – thus the water has nowhere to go.

Ground Water Intrusion in Torrington

This photo shows the damages after a ground water intrusion in Torrington.  The water seeped through the property and into a basement or storage area, the result shows the substantial standing water impact to the unfinished basement. The damages can be mitigated fairly easy to an unfinished space, but a lot of times there is a larger issue at hand, which causes the formal back up all together.

Backdraft Fire in Wheatogue

This fire occurred in Weatogue, and is an example of a backdraft fire – these can be extremely dangerous if they are not handled by a firefighter or someone with ample training. A lot of times, these fires occur when a room is combusting and has minimal oxygen exposure, however when someone opens a door/window or opening to the room, the oxygen then begins to combust causing the gas to ignite.  As heat rises, the heat and fire immediately progress to the where there is no exposure but there is a source for ignition, hence why it spread down the hallways so rapidly.

Kitchen Fire in New Cannaan

This fire in New Canaan, started in the kitchen, one of the most common types of fire you will find.  Most fires start with the stove or range being the source, however machine or malfunctions of the electrical systems can be at fault.  Fire spreads rapidly, however this one appears to have been caught and extinguished fairly quickly as much of the trusses and joists are still in place and do not show signs of direct physical damage – however the property will require extensive demo and clean up. Small errors like heating food while not home, or cooking with oil can lead to the damages here.

Toilet Overflow in Burlington, CT

This loss is from a toilet overflow within the home in Burlington.  These are a bit complex and can be very dangerous if the right measures or steps are not taken to fix the loss properly.  The toilet overflow can change mitigation measures depending on where the overflow or clog takes place.   Depending on if it is a clean water overflow from the tank refilling, it can make clean up easy however with this loss is from the waste line backing up or overflowing.  This requires the property be contained and cleaned with bio agents to prevent further damages.  Furthermore, the flooring needs to be disposed of to properly mitigate.  These can be very costly and inconvenient for all parties but response is always key.

Harwinton, CT Tub Overflow

This loss occurred in Harwinton, when a tub overflowed and seeped into the home.  However, since the homeowners were not home at the time of the loss, the floor was not treated thus the result is the floor damages present.  These damages could have been avoided, but as mitigation did not take place the full restoration multiplied ten-fold.  A simple treatment of the property would have gotten rid of excess water and prevent the floor from cupping or bowing.  Now the entire floor will need to be torn out and replaced.

Farmington, CT Pipe Freeze and Water Damage

This water loss occurred in Farmington, when heat was not maintained in a home during a polar vortex.  As the heat was not maintained in the home, the water freezes in place in lines, only to burst when temperatures rise again. However, in this loss it re-froze in the sink, when the line was allowed to seep over time and colder weather prevailed.   If the lines burst and are not promptly treated and repaired the damages can be catastrophic in nature.  Although not visible in the photo the mitigation would require that the property be heated again, so that melt and repairs can transpire only to do a full mitigation.  This slows the entire process down.

Granby, CT Water Leak

This loss occurred in Granby, due to a water leak on the property, likely outside of normal business hours. These are often referred to as accidental discharges, as they cannot be avoided sometimes, and often the property owner has no idea of the potential loss until it’s too late.  Plumbing line leaks are very common and can cause substantial damage to the home, and in a commercial loss can cause other issues such as business operations closing but need to mitigated properly to prevent more damages.

West Hartford, CT Sink Overflow and Collateral Damage

This loss occurred in West Hartford, is from a sink overflow in an adjacent room.  At first glance it is not a substantial loss – however the sheer loss affected multiple rooms in a commercial property.  The damages have impacted multiple elements of the personal property as well.  The flooring and materials can be salvaged as it is clean/clear water, but it needs to be extracted and dried out properly to avoid growth or future issues from growing.  Fortunately, mitigation is not that difficult and should not take that long.  All items should be restored and brought back to normal within a few days.

New Britain Sewer Backup

This loss occurred in New Britain, and shows a sewer back up, but add in a commercial property and this only multiplies the potential issues.  Proper procedures would require all elements are disposed of and treated properly, but it can leave the property unusable for an extended period of time.  Depending on electronic central operations are run from, it can electronic restoration as well and shut down the company operations.  Furthermore, the smell and clean up are timely and require proper care and reproach to fix.  As this is considered a Category 3 loss, or bacteria ridden water it has to be treated promptly as well or the growth can only worsen without the right mitigation.

Property Damage in Plainville-Housing Authority

This loss took place in Plainville, when the Housing Authority that manages this property discovered damages originating in this unit.  The property owner is a hoarder, as the photos show substantial waste within the property. These losses are timely and often can take weeks, months or even years to fully mitigate.  When a loss occurs though, it can even take time to discover the origin of the loss because there is so much waste to sift through.  These types of cases can result in not only direct physical damages to the property but structural or non-visible damage that compromise safety.  They require a lot of attention to address and they are becoming more common place now.

Unionville, CT Water Damage

This loss occurred in Unionville, when this property was impacted by an accidental discharge of water throughout the space.  The extent of the water was so bad it actually appears like the carpet is actually a different material all together.  However, once the loss occurred it likely was not discovered until the next business.  Depending on how long it was left it can also help mold begin to prosper and grow.  Commercial losses pose their own issues, but they require ample and timely response otherwise the damages can expand and grow very quickly.
